Leaking Rainbows

A few days ago, I went down to the bottom of my yard to refill my chickens’ watering cans. I was feeling pretty sprightly because we had just replaced our old hose with a newer, longer model. This hose reaches all the way from the house and down to the gate of the chicken yard. No more lugging 5 gallon buckets of water up and down hill for this old lady. This chill mid-winter wind startles

the last of Summer’s leaves loose,

a surging flow in flight,

from trees clustered along my homeward drive.
